§ 46-2. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Loading zone means the space or section of the street adjacent to the curb, set aside for the exclusive use of loading and unloading passengers, supplies or merchandise.

    Official traffic signals means any power-operated device by which traffic is alternately directed to stop and proceed that is in conformance with the state manual on uniform traffic control devices.

    Official traffic signs means any sign, marking, and device, other than a signal, placed or erected by a public body or official having jurisdiction, for the purpose of guiding, directing, warning or regulating traffic that is in conformance with the state manual on uniform traffic control devices.

    Parking means the standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, otherwise than a temporary stopping of such vehicle for the purpose of, and while actually engaged in, loading or unloading passengers or merchandise, or an involuntary stopping of the vehicle by reason of causes beyond the control of the occupant of the vehicle.

    Parking space means the space or section of the street adjacent to the curbing and bounded and indicated by painted lines upon the surface of the street, extending from the curbing into the street.

    Pedestrian means any person afoot.

    Right-of-way means the privilege of the immediate use of the street, alley or highway.

    Traffic means pedestrians, vehicles, or ridden or herded animals, either singly or together, moving, or being upon any public street, alley, sidewalk or highway.

    Vehicle means every device or machine in, upon, or by which any person or property may be carried, transported, or drawn, propelled in any manner upon any public street, alley or highway, in city.
