§ 50-19. Purpose and intent.

  • The purpose of this article is:

    (1)

    To establish regulations addressing the protection of healthy and significant trees and to provide for the replacement and replanting of trees that are necessarily removed during construction, development or redevelopment.

    (2)

    To limit the removal of protected trees six inches in diameter without a permit from the city, to promote the orderly development of the city and to protect the public health, safety and general welfare of the citizens of the city. It is not the intent of these regulations to deny development rights protected by law.

    (3)

    To address the removal of mature and protected trees and replacement and replanting of trees that are necessarily removed during construction, development or redevelopment in an expeditious manner and with due regard for the legal rights or property owners in city.
