§ 8-6. Reporting animal bites.

  • (a)

    Any person having knowledge of any animal bite or scratch to a human that the person could reasonably foresee as capable of transmitting rabies or of an animal that the person suspects is rabid shall report the incident or animal to the local animal control officer. The report shall include the name and address of any victim and the owner of the animal, if known, and any other data which may aid in the location of the victim or the animal.

    (b)

    The owner of an animal that is reported to be rabid or reported to have been exposed to rabies or that the owner knows or reasonably believes to be rabid or to have been exposed to rabies shall submit the animal for quarantine to the local animal control officer.

    (c)

    The incident and animal shall be reported to the local animal control officer, as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours from the time of the incident.

    (d)

    The local animal control officer will investigate each bite incident, utilizing standardized reporting forms provided by the state department of health.
